Rashes in Pediatric Practice 02.07.2011

Dr Mandy Allison presented different patient encounters where a rash was involved.

Take home points:

First question to ask, "Is it a bacterial infection?" If not

"If it is wet dry it. If it is dry wet it. Try steriods, if not effective or worse in about 3 days, try an antifungal."

If the child is under 3 months old there is a caution against systemic antibiotic treatment. The question to ask is, "If you are getting labs are you going to tap? If you are not going to tap then no systemic antibiotic."
